CHICAGO — Lakeside and downtown skies could get a little more crowded and noisier in the coming days.

An alert from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications said “military helicopters” will fly in formation as part of practice for “upcoming flyovers that will occur during the events of today and this weekend.”

The OEMC did not specify any other details about the flights, but the alert accompanied reminders about fireworks (they are banned statewide and the city has an additional ban on sparklers and firecrackers) and beach safety (be aware of weather conditions). swimming and only enter the water when a lifeguard is on duty).

The second annual NASCAR Chicago street race is happening on Saturdays and Sundays in and around Grant Park. Visitors to the area are reminded to note the numbers attached to the posts from 5700 North DuSable Lake Shore Drive to 6600 South North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. These numbers are location identifiers that can be used as meeting points or help authorities in case of an emergency.
