I think it’s safe to assume that most people have had to suffer because of a job that wasn’t what they expected. I recently discovered this Reddit thread where people shared their worst jobs. Here are some of the responses:
.“Veterinary technician in training. They ended up making me help with all the euthanasia cases. At least a few a day. I started crying all the time and getting completely drunk every night. I had to stop after a few months.”
two.“I worked at a DVD store, running the floor – organizing shelves, rolling out new inventory, etc. It was a fun job for me. Until we started a rewards program. Very few people signed up and our numbers were bad. Then my boss had the brilliant idea of putting me, a cute little 19 year old girl, in a low cut top in the anime section and encouraging guys to sign up. I think he realized that guys who buy anime are sad and lonely and. from a girl. The sad thing is, it totally worked, and I only worked there for a few more weeks before I got another job that didn’t depend on my cleavage.
.“I worked at a fast food restaurant for my first job and was fired after a month because, in the end, instead of throwing away the leftover burgers, I gave them to the homeless. (That was in 1999).”
.“I worked at a daycare, and the building was very old and run down. The carpet in my classroom was disgusting; there were pee and vomit stains everywhere, broken toys and torn books. No supplies. Just horrible! Rats were running around around the children as they slept in their cribs during nap time, I eventually gave up and called the state.
.“I worked at a COVID testing site and had to test hundreds of people a day. It was A LOT of stress because it was the peak of COVID. times working in that place .”
.“I worked for an outsourced company that sells wireless telephone service. The manager drank on the job and threw tantrums in front of customers. In fact, I was afraid of being alone with him. I was then transferred to another store that needed help. manager wouldn’t accept anything less than our superior service plan. She made me purposefully add things to people’s plans, without asking. your cell phone plan and how much they are charging you. People will do shady things just to get a small commission for it.
.“I was waiting tables for $2.13 an hour. It was especially horrible on Sundays, when the church crowd would come rushing in. They would sit in parties of up to 25 people, all with separate tickets, and all rude AF. Besides Furthermore, church people give the worst tips in the world; many of them don’t tip at all, except when they leave church leaflets instead of money.”
.“At a popular fast food joint, my schedule was messed up. I might have 40 hours one week, 25 the next week, and 0 after that. The kitchen was always hot during the summer, but they refused to fix the air conditioning .Half the team quit at the same time due to excessive heat, which overwhelmed the rest of us.Management sitting in the office playing on their phones throughout the shift was also a common occurrence. middle of the restaurant. The customers were the most horrible human beings. I had to physically defend myself several times. Police officers escorted ‘Karens’ off the property almost every day.”
.“On a night shift at a supermarket, my mental health plummeted because of staying up all night and sleeping all day.”
.“Working on travel insurance claims from March 2020. I would create claims for canceled flights, hotels, traveling car centers, etc. Except after COVID really hit, companies were offering vouchers for future use only and we couldn’t issue any refunds Telling people who just lost their jobs that we can’t get their money back was horrible. It was eight hours every day for months of endless verbal abuse from customers.”
.“I worked at a deli that was frequented by a lot of elderly people. They were always so cruel about the silliest things, like if I cut the meat and it didn’t weigh EXACTLY a pound, they would throw a tantrum.”
.“I was once told that the marketing job I applied for was ‘bridging the gap between clients and customers for Fortune 500 companies.’ Want to know what the job really was? Standing in a suit at a chain restaurant for 10 hours trying to sell people cell phone service.”
.“Doing housework is easy. Making the beds is no joke. How people can do this for over 10 years is crazy. I lasted a week.”
.“Cleaning cars for a rental company. I don’t know what happened at the Grand Prix, but I used to say they were rented by big idiots. Every one of them came back looking like they had driven through a cornfield and hit a wave of buzzards while carrying three muddy golden retrievers in the back and a kid spreading a Big Mac on the dashboard Cleaning the cars on a hot summer track was bad, but the bosses made it even worse for them with the way they treated their employees 28 years ago, I only worked there for about a year. month before I could no longer take the managerial abuse.”
.“Working in a pig feedlot. Pigs are the most stubborn animals to work with, and the smoke/dust you breathe makes it look like you’ve smoked four packs of cigarettes by the time your shift is over.”
.“Hotel front desk. Instead of just giving people regular shifts, you worked first, second, and third. After months of this, my body didn’t know when to sleep or wake up. Mental health sucked, too.”
.“I had a security job where I was shot twice, had countless knives pointed at me, witnessed over a dozen shootings, found two dead bodies at the start of my shift, and had to literally fight for my life once. I was sick in a hospital bed after that fight, and my boss demanded that I be at work the next day.”
Ugh, that’s a lot of bad jobs. If you have any horror stories to add, tell us in the comments!
