The White Dudes for Harris campaign group’s X account was suspended on Monday, apparently just minutes after its first fundraiser raised $4 million for Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential bid.
Asked on his personal account X why the organization, which had more than 13,000 followers X, was blocked, organizer Ross Morales Rocketto he respondedsimply, “It scared Elon Musk.”
A backup account for the organization launched on Monday afternoon and he wrote in response to questions that “@dudes4harris it was Ross’s original account that for some reason was suspended.” This reserve account was approaching 5,000 at the time of publication.
The reasons behind the blocking of the White Dudes for Harris account on X are still unknown, but there were many online on Monday condemning electoral interference of the social media platform, especially considering that owner Elon Musk is a vocal supporter of donald trump for re-election. The technology billionaire supported the former president after him assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.
“The ‘free speech absolutist’ has now suspended the White Dudes for Harris. Presumably for raising $4 million in a few hours. Fascists are terrified. Good,” wrote a verified supporter.
Representatives for White Dudes for Harris did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment. Representatives for X could not be reached for comment.
The first White Dudes for Harris event kicked off with a digital fundraiser on Monday night, featuring The Dude himself, Jeff Bridges and many other white male celebrity speakers including Mark Hamill, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bradley Whitford, Sean Astin and Josh Groban.
In total, the event raised $4 million for Harris’ presidential election campaign against Republican candidate Trump.
“I accepted the invitation and was taken to the party not so much because I’m white, and I certainly am, but because I’m a guy, you know, I qualify, man. I’m white, I’m a guy, and I’m for Harris,” Bridges told the attendees, who number in the tens of thousands.
In a social media clip of the speech posted by The Tennessee Holler, the Oscar winner then gushed: “I’m excited, man. I think because Joe passed the baton so well, I can imagine her being president. I’m so excited. A female president, man. Cool! You know, and your advocacy for women’s rights – so, and your stance on the environment and caring for our children, you know, all your leadership on this is wonderful. And something I can support.”
