Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, told CNN on Monday (5) that he has not spoken to President Joe Biden since he dropped out of the presidential race last month.
When asked by Dana Bash of CNNwhether she would like to talk to him in the future, Pelosi responded, “Yes.”
“Is everything okay between you two?” Bash asked.
“You would have to ask him, but I hope so,” Pelosi said. “See, I love Joe Biden, I’ve respected him for over 40 years.”
Last month, the president withdrew from the Democratic presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. A CNN previously reported that Pelosi had privately told Biden that polls showed he could not beat former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, and that his candidacy could destroy Democrats’ chances of taking back the House in November.
Pelosi described Harris, who on Friday garnered enough votes from Democratic delegates to win the party’s presidential nomination, as “very politically astute,” highlighting Harris’ experience in winning a competitive primary for California attorney general.
“She accomplished this because of her cunning,” Pelosi said, “and I can talk more about that, but the fact is you have seen over the last three weeks how she has managed the opportunity that she has.”
