The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, has officially accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination to lead the Democratic ticket in the 2024 presidential race.

Kamala’s statement was made this Tuesday (6), at her first rally with her choice for running mate, Minnesota governor Tim Walz.

Kamala had already obtained a sufficient number of delegates – a figure in the US electoral system – to make her candidacy official to contest this year’s presidential elections, for the Democratic Party.

Under party rules, Kamala could nominate her running mate without a separate vote.

“I stand before you today to proudly announce that I am now officially the Democratic nominee for President of the United States,” Kamala said at the rally.

“And so, now we have some work to do. We need to move forward to the general elections and win them,” she added.

The event took place in Pennsylvania, a decisive state for the November dispute, and will kick off a series of rallies that the duo will hold across the country in the coming days.

New partnership

Kamala’s campaign says it has raised more than R$113 million since announcing Kamala’s choice for vice president, in the race for the White House, this Tuesday morning (6)

Kamala campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt hailed the milestone as “one of the campaign’s best fundraising days this cycle.”

Alongside Tim Walz, Kamala praised the governor of Minnesota during the rally in Philadelphia

“From the day I announced my candidacy, I started looking for a partner who will help me create this better future. A leader who will help us unite the nation and move forward. A fighter for the middle class”, said Kamala when describing the reasons for choosing Walz as vice president.

The compliments were reciprocal. Walz thanked the vice president for “the trust you placed in me” as well as for “bringing back the joy.”
