Vice President Kamala Harris described why she chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the 2024 presidential election, this Tuesday (6), at the first rally the pair held together in Philadelphia.

“From the day I announced my candidacy, I began looking for a partner who could help build that brighter future, a leader who would help unite our nation and move us forward, a fighter for the middle class, a patriot who believed, as me, in the extraordinary promise of America,” Kamala said at the campaign event.

She went on to say that she “found a leader like that,” referring to Walz, who was standing behind her.

Kamala went on to talk about Walz’s life, saying he is “more than a governor.”

She highlighted her experience coaching high school football, saying it will influence her ability to serve the country as vice president.

“He saw potential in kids who sometimes didn’t even see it in themselves,” she said, adding that Walz led his team from a winless record to the school’s first state championship.

Kamala said Walz was “the kind of teacher and mentor every kid in America dreams of having,” saying he inspired people to “dream big” and that he made “people feel like they belong.”

“That’s the kind of vice president he will be,” she added.

The compliments were reciprocal. Walz thanked the vice president for “the trust you placed in me” as well as for “bringing back the joy.”

New partnership

Kamala campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt hailed the milestone as “one of the campaign’s best fundraising days this cycle.”
