United States President Joe Biden said this Wednesday (7), in an interview with CBS News, that he has no confidence that there will be a peaceful transition of power if former President Donald Trump loses the race for the White House in November.

Biden pointed to comments from the Republican nominee that he suggested the only way he would lose was if the election was stolen from him.

“If Trump wins, no, I’m not confident at all,” Biden said, before correcting himself. “I mean, if Trump loses, I’m not confident at all. He’s serious, we don’t take him seriously, he’s serious, all this stuff about if we lose, there will be a bloodbath, it will have to be a stolen election.”

Earlier this year, Trump warned that if he lost the 2024 election it would be a “bloodbath” for the US auto industry and the country — comments that Biden and his campaign quickly seized on, claiming that the former president was inciting political violence.

Biden also warned that Trump was preparing to contest the election results again in November, as he did in 2020, including placing local election officials sympathetic to him.

“Look what they’re trying to do now in the local voting districts where people count the votes — elected officials, they’re putting people in places in the states where they’re going to count the votes, right?” Biden said.

“You can’t love your country only when you win,” the American president added.

Biden’s full interview is expected to air on CBS this Sunday morning (11).
