Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) says former President Trump should stop questioning the size of Vice President Harris’ crowds at his campaign rallies and instead focus on her as a candidate.

“You have to run this race not on personalities,” McCarthy said Monday in an interview with Fox News. “Stop questioning the size of her crowds and start questioning her position, when it comes to: What has she done as [California] attorney general about crime? …What did she do when she was supposed to take care of the border as tsar?”

The former president said Trump should also attack Harris on the issue of inflation, noting that she was the tie-breaking vote on the key legislation that defined the Biden-Harris administration. He also urged Trump to attack Harris for changing her stance on certain political views in recent years.

“This is a perfect person to run against,” McCarthy said. “You thought John Kerry was a flip-flopper? It’s the biggest somersault, with the most extreme positions, and you have little time to do it.”

“So don’t just sit there, get out there and start making the case and use her own words to do that to her,” he added.

Trump has repeatedly focused on the large crowds at Harris’ rallies, going so far as to suggest that images of them were created using artificial intelligence.

“There was no one on the plane, and she ‘OUCH’, and showed a huge ‘crowd’ of supposed followers, BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST!” the former president wrote on Truth Social this weekend, responding to a photo of a crowd of Harris outside a plane.

“She is a cheat. She had NO ONE waiting, and the ‘crowd’ seemed to be 10,000 strong! The same thing is happening with your fake ‘crowds’ in your speeches,” Trump later added.

Harris’ campaign responded, shooting down any speculation about the mob’s legitimacy.

“1) This is a real photo of a crowd of 15,000 people for Harris-Walz in Michigan,” wrote the KamalaHQ account on social platform X, responding to a screenshot of Trump’s post. “2) Trump still hasn’t campaigned in a swing state in over a week… Low energy?”
