Just one week left until the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, United States

US President Joe Biden, who was previously scheduled to close the event, will be the keynote speaker next Monday (19), before the convention focuses on Vice President Kamala Harris for the rest of the week, according to a source familiar with the planning.

The White House said on Monday (12) that Biden will take advantage of next week to focus on the issues he “cares about” and talk about party unity.

Biden is expected to give a prime-time speech during the opening night of the convention in Chicago, according to three sources familiar with the planning, with the schedule focusing on Biden’s legacy and achievements.

After that, Biden will, literally and figuratively, pass the baton to his current running mate.

There is a reason for such decisions. At the August 2000 convention, the president at the time, Bill Clinton, delivered the opening night address.

After a camera crew recorded Clinton’s dramatic three-minute entrance into the arena, he was greeted with thunderous applause.

Who else will speak at the event

The event lineup is seen as a “who’s who” of the Democratic Party, highlighting elected officials considered rising stars, business and labor leaders, and high-profile celebrity support, many of whom have reached out to the party since Kamala became the Democratic presidential candidate.

Clinton and former President Barack Obama are expected to deliver remarks on Tuesday, according to people familiar with the planning, although timelines are still in flux.

The possibility of speeches by Michelle Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is also under discussion.

The First Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, will also have a prominent place, delivering a speech of his own.
