The president of the North American Building Trades Unions (NABTU) said Wednesday that his union will not “waste too much time” on supporters of former President Trump as it gives its endorsement to President Biden.

“We’re not going to waste a lot of time talking to all the Americans who support Donald Trump, and we’re not going to waste a lot of time with some of our members who support Donald Trump, because we’re not going to change their minds. ,” Sean McGarvey said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

NABTU said in a press release that it would formally support President and Vice President Harris at their annual national legislative conference. Biden is ready to comment at a NABTU conference on Wednesday.

“North America’s construction unions can honestly say that no elected official has shown more respect for our members and their families than President Joe Biden,” McGarvey said in the press release. “Through his policies and his people, President Biden has demonstrated his focus not only on rebuilding our country’s infrastructure and manufacturing sector, but also on rebuilding America’s middle class itself.”

McGarvey said in the “Morning Joe” interview that his union will “focus” on “the 10 to 15 percent of our members that we can talk to… explain to them the facts, give them the projects that they’re actually doing.” ”. working, the way they are feeding their family today.”

“’Do you know how this project came about? It came about through three monumental pieces of legislation after he saved our pensions, which are now creating the biggest infrastructure boom this country has ever seen,’” McGarvey said, simulating a conversation with union members. “We call this the ‘generational infrastructure’ that Joe Biden is creating.”

McGarvey also went after Trump in the press release, stating that his union “took him at his word that he would have a worker-centered agenda and resolve long-stalled issues like infrastructure investment.”

“Instead of complying, he aligned himself with his billionaire friends to pass tax cuts that increased costs for our members,” McGarvey said of Trump. “Simply put, he didn’t deliver. Given our experience and knowing his track record, the choice is clear.”
