The Republican party’s candidate for President of the United States, Donald Trump, accused his Democratic rival, President Joe Biden, of running a “Gestapo government”, the Nazi police in the German regime during the Second World War.

The speech came in a private speech to donors on Saturday (4) night at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, in which he also attacked prosecutors involved in the criminal cases he faces, according to a recording heard by the public. North American media.

“These people run a Gestapo government,” Trump highlighted, according to an audio recording heard by the New York Times and the Washington Post.

“And it’s the only thing they have. And it’s the only way they can win, in their opinion, and it’s really killing them. But that doesn’t bother me,” he added.

The former president’s rhetoric has drawn accusations of fascist tendencies from civil rights groups and other critics.

The comments were made after Trump reaffirmed that the multiple lawsuits against him are politically motivated.

He had just emerged from an 11-day trial in New York in which he is accused of falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to an adult film star.

Donald Trump’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on reports of the speech.

The former president, who held office from 2017 to 2021, faces a series of legal problems in criminal and civil proceedings as he tries to regain the presidency in the November 5 elections. He denies wrongdoing in all cases.

Joe Biden’s campaign said the comments underscore the Republican candidate’s anger and desire for revenge.
