Former President of the United States and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, said on Saturday (11) that former Republican candidate Nikki Haley was not being considered to be his running mate in the November elections, denying a report from news website Axios.

“Nikki Haley is not being considered for the vice presidential position, but I wish her the best!” wrote Trump on his social network Truth Social.

Citing people familiar with the situation, Axios reported that Trump could choose Haley if he was convinced she could help him win the presidency, avoid a possible prison sentence and pay tens of millions in legal bills if he loses.

Haley, former governor of South Carolina and former US ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration, ended her long dispute with the former president, the leader of the Republican presidential race, in March.

The former candidate did not comment on the matter. Although she acknowledged that Trump, who has repeatedly disparaged her candidacy, would be the Republican nominee, Haley did not support him.

There is a long list of potential candidates for vice president on Donald Trump’s ticket that includes: North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Republican Senators Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and JD Vance, and Republican Representative Elise Stefanik.

Burgum and Scott competed against Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination before dropping out.

Kristi Noem was involved in controversy after revealing in her memoir that she shot a 14-month-old dog for being disobedient.

According to advisers, Trump is in no rush to choose a running mate. He will only be formally nominated at the party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in July. He will face President Joe Biden, a Democrat, in the November 5 general election.
