Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Ga.) won the Democratic nomination for another term representing Georgia in the House, projects Decision Desk HQ.

McBath faced two opponents in her effort to win the Democratic primary: State Rep. Mandisha Thomas and Cobb County Commissioner Jerica Richardson. There was the potential for the race to go to a runoff if no candidate received at least 50 percent, but McBath managed to get over the threshold.

She was originally elected to serve Georgia’s 7th Congressional District in 2018 and was re-elected in 2020. She switched to the 6th Congressional District after the state’s redistricting process made the 6th more favorable to Republicans.

McBath then decided to run again in the 6th District this year after a federal judge approved a new map for Georgia that dismantled that Democratic-leaning 7th district.

She will face Republican Jeff Criswell in the general election and will be the favorite to win in the solidly Democratic district.
