Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida) said in an interview Sunday that pollster Nate Silver’s suggestion that President Biden abandon the presidential ticket is “ridiculous” at this stage of the election cycle.
“No, it’s not worth having a conversation,” Moskowitz told Fox News’ Shannon Bream when asked in an interview on “Fox News Sunday” whether Biden should consider leaving the ticket.
Silver, who founded the prominent polling site FiveThirtyEight, said in a recent podcast interview that Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, should consider leaving the Democratic ticket if his poll numbers don’t improve by August.
Biden and former President Trump, the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, have stood side by side in recent months. The latest national polling average from The Hill’s Decision Desk headquarters shows Trump with a 1-point lead over Biden in a head-to-head matchup — a lead within the margins of error of most polls.
However, a recent set of New York Times/Siena College polls in swing states showed Trump leading in five of the six, which Silver said could portend trouble for Biden.
Moskowitz dismissed any doubts about who should lead the party’s ticket in Sunday’s interview.
“Nate, thank you for your participation. This is ridiculous. We’re past that conversation. President Biden will be the nominee. We will have our convention and he will win in November. This will be between two people,” Moskowitz said.
“The way I look at the election is whether you want Trump back or not. That’s the crux of the issue,” Moskowitz continued, noting that this is what voters will be evaluating when they go to the polls in November.
“If you support a woman’s right to choose, you will not vote for President Trump,” Moskowitz said.
