Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid said in a recent interview that he plans to vote for former President Trump in 2024, describing the presumptive Republican nominee as someone who “stands up to people.”

On a interview released Tuesday on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Quaid denounced what he called the “weaponization of our justice system,” echoing many of Trump’s concerns about the state of the country and criticizing President Biden’s approach to foreign policy.

“I myself think I will vote for him… in the next elections. Yes, I am,” Quaid said when asked what he thinks of Trump.

“It seems to me that it makes sense,” he continued. “I was ready not to vote for Trump until what I saw was, more than politics, a weaponization of our justice system and a challenge to our Constitution.”

Quaid has disagreed with investigations into Trump’s alleged criminal behavior, which have led to two federal indictments and two state indictments, including the ongoing trial in New York related to hush payments to an adult film star before the 2016 presidential election.

Trump also faces a federal indictment and an indictment in Georgia for his efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 presidential election. And Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed another indictment against Trump, alleging illegal retention of White House records and obstruction of authorities’ efforts to recover federal documents.

“Trump is probably the most investigated person in the history of the world. And they couldn’t get him into anything,” Quaid said.

Regarding the trial of silence, he added: “Actually, what is the crime? I still can’t understand it.”

Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Quaid said “no” when asked if it is necessary for Trump to vote for him. But when asked if he personally likes the former president, he said he really likes what Trump has done in office, especially in his dealings with foreign leaders.

“Well, look, you know, I was, in the last campaign and in 16, you know, and in 20, I found myself thinking, ‘Oh, please don’t do this. Please, do not say that. You know, these are the things that come out of his mouth. But as president, the one thing I liked about Trump was everything he did,” Quaid said, mentioning his approach to North Korea and ISIS.

“How he defended us abroad… and the way he responded to China,” he continued. “He stands up to people and that’s what makes him a leader.”

The fandom apparently runs in the family: Quaid’s brother, fellow actor Randy Quaid, has long been a vocal Trump supporter.

Dennis Quaid compared Biden’s approach to foreign policy to that of former President Jimmy Carter, where “we’re trying to be everyone’s friend and friend,” but, Quaid added, “there are some bad people and bad actors in this world.”

“And so, you know, people might call him an idiot, but he’s my idiot,” Quaid said of Trump.

“I’ll tell you one true thing about him: I really feel like he’s working for the American people. That’s what he’s about. And I believe that to be true and sincere.”

On whether he thinks Biden is too old to be president, Quaid said he echoed concerns Trump has expressed in the past, saying of Biden: “I don’t feel like he’s in charge. I don’t feel like he’s there. And I don’t, I feel like he says things to get votes, not that he actually believes them.”

“And now I’m really going to get some backlash. But that’s how I feel. And so at the same time, for everyone who’s going to vote for Biden, I mean, I hope that we, you know, can all learn to talk about where we are as Americans, that we all live in the same country. And it doesn’t have to be the end of the world, whoever is elected,” he said.
