Donald Trump requested this Tuesday that the judge responsible for his criminal trial related to the purchase of a porn star’s silence lift the gag order in the case, in which the former president of the United States was convicted last week.

Before the trial began in April, Judge Juan Merchan restricted Trump’s public statements about jurors, witnesses and others involved in the case, after prosecutors cited past comments he described as threatening.

“Now that the trial is over, the concerns articulated by the government and the Court do not justify continued restrictions on President Trump’s First Amendment rights,” defense attorney Todd Blanche wrote in a June 3 face-off made public this week. Tuesday.

A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election about a sexual encounter she claims she had with him.

Republican candidate for the 2024 election, Trump denies having sex with Daniels and promised to appeal the conviction.
