Former President Trump on Thursday endorsed the retirement of Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), who is running for a position in charge of certifying Maricopa County elections, among other responsibilities.

Lesko, who is retiring from his position representing Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, is running for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in District 4.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is made up of five county supervisors who “set the agenda and approve a budget that allocates money to all departments and elected positions,”according to Maricopa County.

Some of the supervisors’ responsibilities include certifying county election results; the role is remarkablegiven that their supervisors resisted a pressure campaignduring the 2020 elections to overturn the presidential election results. President Biden barely won the county over Trump by just over 2 points.

Trump Praised Lesko as an “Amazing Congresswoman”in a post on his Truth Social platform.

“A great friend of MAGA, Debbie has been with us from the beginning, fighting hard against Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, and understood many of the bad things that were happening better than most. Now Debbie is running for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors,” Trump wrote.

“She will work tirelessly to safeguard our elections, protect our communities, secure our borders, stop migrant crime, grow the economy, and defend our ever-beleaguered Second Amendment. Debbie Lesko has my full and complete endorsement – SHE WILL NEVER DISAPPOINT YOU! he added.

Leskosaid in a post on Xthat she was “honored” to have Trump’s endorsement.

“! I look forward to working with President Trump when he is back in the White House for the great people of our county!” she wrote.

Arizona is among a handful of swing states that will determine the White House race this fall, with Maricopa County playing a critical role in determining Biden’s victory last cycle.

Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) narrowly defeated Republican Kari Lake by 2 points in the county in the 2022 Arizona governor’s race, although Lake has challenged the election results of her race.
