Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other third-party candidates give her “some concern.”

Whitmer was pressed on CNN’s “State of the Union” about recent polls that showed Kennedy had 9% support in her home state of Michigan. She emphasized on Sunday that the election would be a “close” contest, but that President Biden has a list of achievements he can tout to the state’s voters.

She said Biden “is the first president in a long time who has been able to deliver infrastructure and has a real vision for manufacturing that comes to fruition every day in good-paying jobs.”

“Certainly Kennedy, or any third party candidate, gives me some concern and should be taken seriously and that’s why we’re showing up and working hard in all 83 counties to win the people’s votes and a lot of good traditional votes. Republicans who are uncomfortable with the convicted felon at the top of the ballot box, who know that Kennedy has a lot of crazy ideas about science and the future and doesn’t even have the support of his own family,” Whitmer said.

“That being said, we cannot make any assumptions. We have to win every vote and that is what we are doing,” she added.

Kennedy qualified for the Michigan ballot in April. According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling average in Michigan, Kennedy has about 7.7 percent support in the state, as Biden and former President Trump are virtually tied.
