Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said former President Trump is “very excited” about his recent primary victory.

Mace praised his relationship with the former president Wednesday on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto” after scoring a victory in his primary race Tuesday night despite facing some criticism from members from the Republican Party, as well as from a Republican Party opponent for his seat.

“I actually spoke to him last night. He called us. He was very excited,” she told host Neil Cavuto when asked about her relationship with Trump.

“And he was a big part of our election. Without his support – I mean, he’s one of the strongest endorsers out there today. And we were one of the biggest races he won last night with his support,” she added.

She won the primary for her House seat in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday night, fending off challenger Catherine Templeton and avoiding a runoff amid backlash from some Republicans.

Mace faced some backlash from members of her own party after she became one of eight Republicans to vote to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from his leadership role last year. She has also faced criticism for her shift in support to Trump since he lost the 2020 election and since the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol.

After the attack on the Capitol, Mace said the Republican Partyneeded to be “rebuilt”and this“Trump’s entire legacy has been wiped away.” She ended up endorsing the former president earlier this year, saying at the time that it was time to unite behind one candidate.
