Donald Trump, former president of the United States, easily leads the battle for popularity on TikTok in relation to Joe Biden, current president, with an eye on the 2024 presidential elections. According to recent data, Trump is 18 times more popular than Biden on the platform of short videos, with around 6 million followers compared to just 300 thousand for the Democrat.

Trump’s wide lead on TikTok reflects the Republican’s aggressive strategy to win over younger voters on social media. Meanwhile, Biden’s team is struggling to engage with this audience.

Questions about Biden’s ability

Trump supporters have gone viral with videos that appear to show episodes of confusion and inattention from the Democratic president, reinforcing the thesis that Biden, at 80 years old, would be too old for a possible second term.

The Trump campaign has taken advantage of these images, the target of intense sharing on the networks, to question Biden’s ability to continue commanding the United States. The former president, in turn, demonstrates agility in using digital platforms to boost his narrative.

Experts warn, however, of the risks of disseminating false or adulterated content through artificial intelligence, including deepfakes capable of distorting reality and influencing public opinion. The US Supreme Court has been looking for ways to control this phenomenon, such as requiring disclaimers on AI-generated materials and banning misleading deepfakes.
