Former US President Donald Trump’s advisers are paying close attention to reports about the Biden campaign’s preparations for this Thursday’s debate (27), two Trump advisers told CNN.
Advisers said Trump is taking a close look at the specific themes President Joe Biden is being urged to focus on and the areas they want to avoid.
One of the aides criticized what they argued was Biden’s team being “too open” about their debate plans, telling CNN that the Trump team is working diligently to be more stealthy with its own strategy.
“In general, we are not providing behind-the-scenes footage,” Trump co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita told reporters on a conference call Tuesday. “We certainly know what happens on a daily basis at Camp David, we think it’s a lot of fun.”
Trump aides have also been watching previous debates, both those conducted between Trump and Biden and those in which the president alone participated.
Part of that process included identifying the familiar rhetoric they anticipate Biden will deliver on stage this Thursday, including what aides argue is language to avoid outlining specific plans, as well as the president’s tendency to paint himself as “a Joe normal” – rather than a decades-old politician.
