But there is one strategy that he and his advisors do not seek to use, according to two sources familiar with the matter: making major political or personal statements, as he did in the first debates for the 2020 elections.

When debating Bernie Sanders in March 2020, Biden promised to nominate a woman as vice president – ​​and, in front of another audience, he reiterated his promise to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court.

Faiz Shakir, Sanders’ 2020 campaign manager, told CNN which was a smart and effective strategy that gained a lot of media coverage due to the nature of the ad.

The Democrats’ 2024 “platform” is still being worked out by the Biden campaign and Democratic National Convention operations, sources say.

This makes it more likely that a future debate will have a heavier focus on policy and the personal. A second debate is scheduled for September, when voters will be more attentive to the issues.
