Former President Trump took a victory lap on Saturday after this week’s debate, but argued that President Biden’s poor performance overshadowed his own “fantastic” performance.

“When I walked off the stage on Thursday night at the end of the highly anticipated ‘Debate,’ anchors, political reports and everyone shouted that I had given the best debate performance in the long and storied history of Presidential Debates,” Trump said. posted for his Truth Social website. “Everyone effectively said, ‘Trump was fantastic!’”

“But on Friday night it was all about Crooked Joe’s poor performance and now a lot about how well I did,” he continued. “Ah, well, that’s how it is, but the most important thing is that the result is the same!!!”

His comments came after the former president sharply criticized Biden during a Friday rally in Virginia, calling the incumbent “a stupid, stupid, stupid man.” The presumptive GOP nominee said the president secured the network and debate rules he wanted, but “no amount of rest or equipment” was able to help him on stage.

Trump, who has been a critic of CNN for much of his time in politics, added that the network’s moderators, anchors Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, treated him “very fairly” during the debate.

Much of the talk surrounding the debate centers on the widespread panic felt by Democrats over Biden’s shaky performance — which included blank stares, stumbling over words and lack of energy — and whether that influences his ability to defeat Trump in November.

Although some defended the president, calls spread from both parties for the president to step aside. The White House and Biden’s campaigns, however, rejected the requests.

Trump’s performance was also criticized. His former communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, said he lied “every 100 seconds” in the debate, but that’s normal because that’s Trump’s brand.

Bash and Tapper also came under fire after refusing to real-time fact-check Trump and Biden’s false statements.
