Joe Biden set to meet with more than 20 Democratic governors today

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, is expected to meet with more than 20 Democratic governors this Wednesday (3) amid concerns about the continuity of his re-election bid.

The group includes some state executives mentioned as possible replacements in the electoral dispute.

Two sources familiar with the meeting told CNN Among those planning to attend in person are:

  • Minnesota Governor Tim Walz
  • California Governor Gavin Newsom
  • Illinois Governor JB Pritzker
  • New York Governor Kathy Hochul
  • Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear
  • Maryland Governor Wes Moore
  • Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey
  • Rhode Island Governor Daniel McKee
  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is also expected to attend the White House meeting in person, according to a source familiar with her plans.

Other governors are expected to participate by videoconference or telephone, including North Carolina’s Roy Cooper, New Jersey’s Phil Murphy and Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro.

A CNN reached out to the White House for a complete list of attendees. The event is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET in the Roosevelt Room and is closed to the press.

At a press conference this Wednesday afternoon, Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, addressed the meeting, highlighting that governors are important partners for Biden. She did not say whether the Democrat’s candidacy will be one of the topics at the meeting.

Jake Tapper, anchor of CNN, First reported on Tuesday that Walz had organized a call with Democratic governors to express his concerns about Biden after his poor performance in the Senate debate. CNN last week.

Some state leaders wanted a meeting with the White House to discuss their concerns, sources told Tapper.
