US President Joe Biden sought “honest input” from his campaign co-chairs about his re-election bid in a call this Saturday morning, Delaware Senator Chris Coons, who is one of the co-chairs, told CNN.

Biden’s conversation with his national team comes as the president refuses to drop his candidacy amid pressure from within his own party to withdraw from the 2024 race.

“The Biden campaign co-chairs had a positive, constructive and open call today with the president that lasted more than an hour, in which he asked for honest input and advice on the best path forward,” Coons reported.

Crucial moment of the campaign

The call comes a day after Biden’s campaign trip to Wisconsin and a 22-minute interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos.

The Democrat’s advisers hope these events will help reassure voters about his fitness to serve a second term, even if some party members remain unconvinced about his viability as the candidate.

“There was broad consensus that the rally in Wisconsin was great, the interview with Stephanopoulos was good, and he will engage more directly, whether in public meetings or press conferences, to reassure people who haven’t had a chance to hear from him directly. ,” Coons added.

The senator is one of the allies calling on the US president to participate in more “unscripted” engagements.

Joe Biden is expected to hold his first formal press conference since Thursday’s debate on the conclusion of the NATO summit, the Western military alliance.
