Former President Trump maintains a 5-point lead over President Biden in the critical battleground state of Wisconsin, according to a new poll.
A AARP research, which was conducted by Fabrizio Ward & Impact Research, showed Trump ahead of Biden 50 percent to 45 percent when the two face off, with 4 percent undecided and 1 percent saying “other.”
When Trump and Biden are placed on the same ballot with independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and several other unlikely candidates, Trump leads Biden by 6 points, 44% to 38%. Another 9% said they supported Kennedy. Five percent in that poll said they were undecided.
The AARP poll shows that Trump has an edge over Biden with both younger voters (those ages 18 and 49) and older voters (those ages 50 and older). But Trump enjoys a larger lead over Biden among older voters (7-percent advantage in the full poll, which includes Kennedy) than among younger voters, where Trump has a 4-percent lead.
At the same time, the AARP poll showed Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) besting Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde, highlighting a long-standing trend of Senate Democrats from swing states outperforming Biden on their respective ballots.
The poll showed Baldwin leading Hovde by 50% to 45%. Another 5% said they were undecided, while 1% said “other”.
The poll is another warning sign for Biden, especially in Wisconsin, as the president has had better results in the Badger State compared to other swing states. But research suggests his performance during the debate may have been undermined by voters in the critical battleground state.
The AARP poll was conducted between June 28 and July 2 with a sample of 600 likely voters. The margin of error for the full sample is plus or minus 4 percentage points. Eight hundred voters aged 50 or over were sampled, with a margin of error of 3.5 points.
