Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said it’s ultimately up to President Biden “to decide whether he’s going to run” as the president faces growing calls to step aside after a lackluster debate performance last month.

“It’s up to the president to decide whether he’s going to run,” Pelosi said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” when asked whether Biden has her support to lead the Democratic Party in November. “We are all encouraging him to make this decision. Because time is running out.”

“But he is loved, he is respected and people want him to make this decision,” she added.

Biden’s rocky debate performance last month has raised concerns among Democrats about whether he is the best candidate to defeat former President Trump in November — and whether he is capable of serving a second term. Although some Democrats have called on him to step aside, Biden has said he will remain in the race.

Pelosi had already shown her support for the incumbent after the debate and rejected calling for him to step down from the top of the ticket. She added on Wednesday that people should let Biden focus on the NATO Summit, which will be held in Washington, D.C. this week.

“I want him to do whatever he decides to do. And that’s the way it is,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter what he decides to do. I think it’s really important, and I hope everyone participates, to let him handle this NATO conference. This is a big deal,” she continued, adding that she is “very proud” of the president .
