Democrats are nervous about Biden prospects, but some hope for change

Democratic senators have shown division over US President Joe Biden’s insistence on remaining in this year’s presidential race.

Richard Blumenthal, a senator from Connecticut, told Manu Raju of CNN, who is “deeply concerned,” warning Biden that he “still has a task ahead of him” and that “there will be a question mark for some time.”

“I am deeply concerned about the [perspectiva de] Joe Biden’s victory in November. Because it is an existential threat to the country if Donald Trump wins,” said Blumenthal.

“So I think we have to come to a conclusion as quickly as possible and I think Joe Biden, as the Democratic nominee, has my support, he has very broad support across the country, he is working vigorously to try to calm the concerns that have been raised, and I think that is your task. Right now,” he added.

“He can do it, but there will be a question mark for some time,” concluded the Democrat.

Asked if he thought Biden still had a path to winning the White House race, Blumenthal stressed that he did, but asked the president to intensify his campaign.

Blumenthal also suggested that Joe Biden should continue to receive advice on the path forward, admitting that “at the end of the day, I think it’s his decision.”

Other senators show support for Biden

Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey, one of the Democrats’ most vulnerable members of the Senate, has previously said he supports Biden remaining as the nominee.

He did not agree with the assessment of Colorado Senator Michael Bennet, who told CNN on Tuesday (9) that he thought Biden could lose “a landslide” to Donald Trump.

And California Senator Alex Padilla also highlighted that he disagreed with colleagues who thought Biden would lose and cost the Democratic party its majority in Congress.

“I still think there is a path forward not only for the president to win reelection, but for Democrats to maintain the majority in the Senate and regain the majority in the House,” Padilla said.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden defended Biden, commenting: “I’ll tell you what I’m telling my voters at home, it was a very difficult debate night. But if you elect Donald Trump, it will be four years of terribly difficult nights.”

Senator Maggie Hassan, from New Hampshire, highlighted: “He has been an excellent president, working to reduce costs, [mas] there is still more work to be done. Working to preserve citizenship and equality for women in our country.”

“He gave a great speech at NATO yesterday. Donald Trump has had a truly horrible presidency and is a real threat to our democracy. He bragged about taking away a woman’s most fundamental right, he will make us less safe and divide our politics even more”, analyzed the congresswoman.
