The shooting at former president and candidate Donald Trump’s rally is being investigated as an attempted assassination, according to authorities. The United States Secret Service said the gunman fired several shots from an “elevated position” outside the Republican rally before being killed by agents.

One rally participant died and two were seriously injured after the episode in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night (13), according to Anthony Guglielmi, head of communications for the US Secret Service.

The shooter also died, Guglielmi said in a statement.

“The United States Secret Service responded quickly with protective measures and former President Trump is safe. One spectator was killed and two spectators were seriously injured. This incident is currently under investigation and the Secret Service has notified the FBI,” Guglielmi said in a statement.

Former President Donald Trump was removed from the stage at a rally in Pennsylvania, United States, this Saturday (13), after gunshots were heard at the scene.

Journalists at the scene reported hearing “a series of loud explosions or bangs” before Secret Service agents rushed toward it.

Trump came out with a wound to his ear and was bleeding. He also shouted back to the crowd and raised his fist.
