Ivanka Trump says she is praying for the country after former President Trump said he was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and the other victims of today’s senseless violence,” Trump’s 42-year-old daughter said in a statement.posted on social media platformSaturday.
The Secret Service said in a statement that a “suspected gunman fired several shots from the stage from an elevated position outside the rally site” while Trump was delivering remarks at the campaign event. The former president was “safe and being evaluated”.
A bystander was killed and two people were injured, authorities said, and the incident is being investigated as an attempted murder.
Ivanka Trump expressed gratitude to law enforcement, writing, “I am grateful to the Secret Service and all other law enforcement officials for their quick and decisive actions today.”
“I continue to pray for our country,” wrote Trump, who was a senior adviser in his father’s administration.
“I love you, dad, today and always,” she added.
On the same night in 2022 that her father announced he would run for president in the 2024 White House race, Ivanka Trump said she did not “plan to get involved in politics.”
The mother of three said in an interview earlier this month that she would not campaign with her father because she was choosing to spend time raising her young children. There is “a lot of darkness” in politics, Trump said.
