Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, said on the Truth Social platform that he will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this Sunday (14), at around 3:30 pm local time, as scheduled. Trump initially considered postponing his trip following Saturday’s assassination attempt.

Trump is already on the plane on his way to the city of Milwaukee. There, the former president will attend the Republican Party convention, an event that will mark the official confirmation of Donald Trump as candidate for president of the United States.

“Based on the terrible events of yesterday, I was going to postpone my trip to Wisconsin and the Republican National Convention by two days, but I have just decided that I cannot allow a “shooter,” or potential killer, to force the change in the schedule, or anything else,” wrote the Republican.

Trump added: “So I will leave for Milwaukee as scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Today. Thanks! DJT”

Trump’s post comes after Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Brian Schimming said there are no major changes being made to the Republican National Convention schedule.

Republican National Convention

The Republican Party will hold its convention this week, an event that will mark the official confirmation of Donald Trump as candidate for president of the United States. One of the most anticipated moments will be the announcement of the name that will occupy the position of vice-president on the former president’s ticket.

The choice of Trump’s running mate gains special attention after the events that followed the 2020 elections. Mike Pence, who served as vice president during Trump’s term, is out of the race due to differences with the former president in the post-election period.

The Republican convention follows the episode of Trump at the rally in Pennsylvania, where he suffered an assassination attempt. Furthermore, the Republican Party meeting also comes at a time of turmoil for the Democratic Party, with some members pressuring President Joe Biden to drop out of the election race.

Secret Service says event is safe

The United States Secret Service said at a press conference this Sunday (14) that it is confident in the security plans for the Republican Party convention, which takes place in Milwaukee this week.

“We are confident in the security plans for the Republican National Convention,” said the agency coordinator. “We are fully prepared,” he added.

An FBI special agent, present at the press conference, stated that “there are no known threats against the Republican National Convention or anyone present.”
