After months of acting behind the scenes, the wife of the former president of the United States, Melania Trump, will make a public appearance on Thursday (17), during the Republican National Convention — a mega party event that takes place in Milwaukee throughout the week.

Melania is expected to take the convention stage alongside her daughter, Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The last time Melania Trump was publicly alongside her husband at an election-related event was in March, during the Republican primary vote in Palm Beach, Florida.

Her presence in Republican Party communications, however, has grown in recent days. Last week, Melania released a statement regretting the attempted murder of her husband at an event in Pennsylvania last Saturday (13).

“We cannot forget that differences of opinion, public policies or political games are beneath love. Our lifelong commitment, even unto death, is at grave risk. Political concepts are simple when compared to us human beings”, said the former first lady.

Still in the letter, she adopted a tone similar to that used by speakers at the Republican Convention, who rewrote their speeches to adopt a message of national unity after the attack on Trump.

“When it comes time to look beyond the right and the left, beyond the red and the blue, we all come from families with a passion to fight, together, for a better life while in this worldly realm. Dawn is here again. Let’s unite. Now,” she stated.

Family amplifier

The Republican National Convention agenda is packed with allies who have pledged personal loyalty to Trump, and not just the party. The list includes six governors of American states, dozens of parliamentarians and, this year, a delegation of members of Donald Trump’s family. In addition to Melania, Ivanka and Jared, children Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump were or will be on the Fiserv Forum stage, as well as Kimberly Guilfyle, Trump Jr.’s fiancée, and Eric’s wife, Lara Trump.

Lara is also co-president of the Republican National Committee, one of the structures that concentrates the most power within Donald Trump’s party. She was responsible for organizing this week’s event. And she spoke for more than twenty minutes on Tuesday (16), becoming one of the speakers with the longest time on the entire convention agenda.

At the end of the second day of the event, she waved to the undecided, asking them to vote for Trump in November.

“You don’t have to love everything he posts on X. But you can’t deny that your life was better when Donald Trump was president.” And it ended up amplifying the stereotype used by the Republican campaign that Trump is a symbol of masculine strength. “He’s a lion,” he said. “He IS brave, strong, fearless — exactly what this country needs right now.”
