JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, gave his first campaign speech after being announced as candidate for vice president of the United States.
The speech took place in Milwaukee, where the Republican Party National Convention is being held, an event at which Vance is also scheduled to speak this Wednesday (17).
He joked about this, highlighting that he is excited to participate in the convention, but that if he “screws everything up, it’s too late”, as he has already been chosen as a candidate.
The senator also commented that defending Trump’s re-election to the US presidency is “easy”, but “very important”, claiming that Joe Biden’s administration was a complete failure.
“The media lied in the most aggressive and slanderous way about the guy [Trump], and he continues to overcome it. He keeps persevering, he keeps fighting. President Trump took everything they threw at him and came out stronger, and the country came out better for his service,” he said.
“We should be grateful to him, and I know all of us in this room certainly are,” he added. The candidate also criticized the press coverage of the attack on Donald Trump.
At another point in the speech, JD Vance attacked Joe Biden and the state of the country’s economy.
“It’s time to return to Donald Trump’s leadership, it’s time to get rid of the corrupt Biden and Harris regime that broke the country, ruined its reputation in the world, and most importantly, made basic middle class life less affordable for our citizens,” he said.
