The President of the United States, Joe Biden, tested positive for Covid-19, as announced by the White House this Wednesday (17).

“Earlier today, after his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for Covid-19. He is vaccinated and has mild symptoms”, they pointed out, highlighting that he took booster doses of the vaccines.

According to the government’s statement, the president will return to Delaware, where he will remain in isolation and perform “all his duties fully”.

Regular updates on the US president’s health status will be provided by the White House.

Biden was scheduled to speak at a conference in Las Vegas this Wednesday night local time. However, Janet Murguía, president and CEO of UnidosUS, announced that participation was canceled due to the diagnosis of the disease.

“I was on the phone with President Biden. And he shared his deep disappointment at not being able to join us this afternoon. The president has been to many events, as we all know, and he has just tested positive for Covid,” Murguía told attendees.

In a note, Joe Biden’s doctor reported that the Democrat presented symptoms such as a runny nose, cough and malaise.

“He felt well in his first event of the day, but as he was not feeling better, the test for Covid-19 was carried out and the results were positive for the Covid-19 virus”, he highlighted, adding that the confirmation test of PCR is pending.

“His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal, his temperature is normal and his pulse oximetry is normal, at 97%. The President received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth,” he concluded.

Biden says health problem would make him rethink candidacy

Joe Biden said during an interview that only a health problem would make him reconsider running for re-election.

“If I had a health problem, if someone, if doctors came to me and said I have this problem, that problem… But I made a serious mistake in the entire debate,” Joe Biden told BET News’ Ed Gordon, in an interview.

The Covid diagnosis comes at a crucial moment in the Democrat’s campaign, as he is questioned about his physical and mental fitness for another term.
