(NewsNation) — Liberal commentator and former Democratic presidential candidate Cenk Uyghur says President Biden’s chances of being re-elected are “zero, none.”
“He’s definitely, definitely, definitely going to lose. There is no chance of victory,” Uygur told NewsNation Digital at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“Eight out of 10 people think his brain is not working. The entire party’s brain doesn’t work if you nominate a guy who 80% of the country thinks literally doesn’t have a functioning brain.”
Uighur, co-creator of liberal news and commentary program “The Young Turks,” calls the Democratic Party “completely crazy” for not nominating someone else this year due to Biden’s declining mental acuity.
“That didn’t happen in the debate. It turns out that people recognized that in the debate,” he said.
“I tried to expel him a year ago because that was clear,” said Uigur, referring to his candidacy for the Democratic nomination which began in October last year, but was suspended in March.
Uyghur tried but failed to get listed on several state primary ballots. He was rejected because he was not a “natural-born citizen of the US” under Article II of the US Constitution. Uighur was born in Türkiye.
‘Unity’ calls are ‘a joke’
Calls for American unity in the days following the attempted assassination of former President Trump are “a joke,” he said.
“I don’t think anyone is really promoting this. They are just paying lip service and marketing. Republicans can’t wait to attack Democrats. What are they going to do? Suddenly being ‘kumbaya’ with Trump? They’re not doing that,” he said.
Uighur says there is some “unity” evident, but neither party is interested in pursuing it.
“I agree with JD Vance on holding bankers accountable. But when I say that, Democrats say, ‘You can’t do that! JD Vance is a fascist! How do you dare?’ He’s agreeing with us! Earn the victory. He is agreeing with Elizabeth Warren. Matt Gaetz is drafting anti-corruption bills with AOC. Earn victory! There are ways to unify that are very, very real. But when you do that, both sides rip your head off,” he said.
Hate, Stupidity Stopping Republican Party Landslide
Uygur also cited two examples of what he called Republican stupidity, starting with the Secret Service’s response to the shooting at Trump’s rally Saturday in Pennsylvania and some Republicans attacking the agent who was among the people surrounding Trump.
“That woman would have been shot by Donald Trump. She risked her life to save her monster-as she should have done. I’m glad he’s okay… and I’m glad she did her job. Now you’re going to insult her after she would have taken a bullet for him? he said.
Looking at the bigger picture, Uyghur says the Republican Party could not only win in November, but gain big from a public change of tone.
“If they would just stop hating us all, they would win in a landslide. The country is in a populist climate (and) they pretend to be populists. If they would just stop hating women and all minorities they would win so easily! But they can’t help themselves,” he said.
