The Republican National Convention kicked off in Milwaukee this week, just days after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. And Trump, who made a surprise appearance at the nightly event with a bandage over his right ear, is scheduled to address the four-day convention tonight in prime time, when he will formally accept the Republican Party’s nomination. Trump is scheduled to speak for 90 minutes, wrapping up the RNC’s final night.
Trump said he rewrote his planned speech in light of the shooting.
“The speech I would give on Thursday would be incredible,” he told the Washington Examiner on Sunday. “If that hadn’t happened, this would have been one of the most incredible speeches. … Honestly, it’s going to be a totally different discourse now.”
