What caused the blackout?

The global cyber blackout happened due to an issue with cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.

The company’s CEO, George Kurtz, reported that the interruptions were caused by a defect found in a single content update of its software on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Computers running Windows appear to be crashing due to the incorrect way a software code update issued by CrowdStrike interacts with the system.

Kurtz highlighted that a correction has already been implemented, but experts highlighted that the situation may take time to return to normal.
