Former President Donald Trump said in a new interview with Fox News that the wound on his ear from the attack in Pennsylvania is “improving a lot” and that he is now “just wearing small bandages.”
During the interview, Trump was wearing a beige bandage, significantly smaller than the white one he wore all week at the Republican Party convention. The interview was recorded on Saturday (20), in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, during his rally there, and aired on Monday (22) night.
“But it was an ugly thing and it was an ugly time,” Trump said. “It was exactly a week ago today. Exactly. And, you know, when you think about it, a lot has been said. Who would have thought this would happen? But it happened, and I was very lucky. Or God, I think it was God, actually”, said the former president.
Trump said Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson was the one who gave him a chart about illegal immigration, which he put on the screen and looked at when the attack happened.
“He actually gave me the chart. If I hadn’t had that graph, I wouldn’t have looked to the right. If I hadn’t looked to the right, a very bad thing would have happened,” Trump said. “I wouldn’t be at the convention, I can practically guarantee that,” Trump said.
JD Vance’s choice was due to “automatic chemistry”, says Trump
In the same interview, former President Donald Trump said he chose JD Vance to be his running mate in part because they have “an automatic chemistry” and because Vance “would champion my cause.”
“We always had good chemistry. And originally, JD probably wasn’t on my side, but he didn’t know me, and when we met, he liked me maybe more than anyone else. And he would defend my cause, he would fight for the workers as much as I would. We had automatic chemistry,” Trump told Fox News in his first joint interview with Vance.
Trump suggested that his support of Vance in the Ohio Senate race helped Vance win against a “very tough field.”
He also mentioned Vance’s memoir, “Once Upon a Dream,” and said, “He wrote a book, which was a classic, as you know, and it was all about working men and women and how they’re not being treated. fairly, and he was right about that. And I understood perhaps better than anyone else.”
Changing sides
Vance was a leading voice in the “Never Trump” movement during the 2016 presidential election. He liked tweets in 2016 and 2017 that were harshly critical of Trump and his policies, and, according to a review of his media appearances by the KFile team at CNNmade anti-Trump comments in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Vance deleted previous anti-Trump tweets before his July 2021 announcement that he would run for Ohio’s open Senate seat.
