The leadership of the Democratic Party in the United States Congress announced this Tuesday (23) support for Kamala Harris’ candidacy for President.
“The vast majority of my senators quickly and enthusiastically supported her, so now that the process is complete, from the bottom up, we are here today to give our support to Vice President Kamala Harris,” said Chuck Schumer, leader of the Democrats in the Senate.
He was alongside Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democratic leader.
Schumer highlighted that the party is “stronger and more united than ever” and that a “new chapter” in the fight to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president has begun.
“We see very clearly how nervous Republicans are about our new nominee. They haven’t seen anything yet,” he pointed out.
“Vice President Harris will beat Donald Trump and become the next president of the United States,” added the leader.
Trump is a “danger” to democracy, says Schumer
During the speech, Chuck Schumer also criticized Donald Trump, classifying the former president as a risk to democracy.
“Today, with one voice, we speak about the dangers he [Trump] represents. For working families, our country and our democracy,” she commented.
Kamala is “ready, willing and able to lead us into the future”
Hakeem Jeffries began his speech by praising Joe Biden. He called the American president a patriot and hero.
Furthermore, he highlighted that Kamala Harris is “ready, willing and able to lead us into the future”.
“Kamala Harris’ candidacy has excited and energized House Democrats, the Democratic Party and the nation. Vice President Harris won the nomination from the bottom up and not from the top down,” she highlighted.
“I am proud to strongly support Kamala Harris to be the 47th President of the United States of America,” Jeffries concluded.
