The president of Ipsos, a market research and consultancy in the United States, Clifford Young, said in an interview with the WW program this Tuesday (23) that the current American vice-president, Kamala Harris, is a figure still unknown to voters Republicans.
Although Harris has reasonably high recognition, Young claims that “no one knows anything in detail about her.”
According to the expert, Harris’ situation differs significantly from that of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 elections.
“She [Hillary Clinton] she had a great history over many years, she had a very close relationship with her husband, she was very involved in politics over decades’, Young explained.
Race to define image
Young highlighted that there is currently a “huge race” to define Kamala Harris’ image. On the one hand, the vice president herself seeks to establish her political identity. On the other, Republicans are trying to shape a narrative that is more favorable to them.
The lack of a consolidated image of Harris contrasts with the perception that Republican voters had of Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Clinton, with decades of political experience and a strong association with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, already had a well-established — albeit often negative — image among the Republican base.
This situation presents both challenges and opportunities for Kamala Harris. The vice president has the chance to shape her own narrative, but she also faces the risk of having her image defined by her political opponents.
As the 2024 elections approach, shaping Harris’ public image will likely become a crucial factor in the political strategy of both Democrats and Republicans.
