The President of the United States, Joe Biden, in his speech in the Oval Office this Wednesday (24), framed the 2024 elections as a fight to save democracy and said that nothing can get in the way.

“I believe that my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for the future of America deserved a second term. But nothing, nothing can stop the salvation of our democracy – that includes personal ambition,” he said.

“So I decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the best way to unite our nation,” she added.

The American president approached his decision to withdraw from the 2024 election race as a choice “between moving forward and going back, between hope and hatred”.

“I revere this office. But I love my country more. It has been the honor of my life to serve as your president. But in defense of democracy, which is at stake – and is more important than any title. I draw strength and find joy in working for the American people,” Biden said in a rare address to the nation from the Oval Office.

Biden spoke about his love for America and the honor of serving as president.

“This sacred task of perfecting our union – it is not about me. It’s about you, your family, your future. It’s about ‘We the People’.”

Biden called for unity

The American president said in his Oval Office speech this Wednesday that Americans must unite to protect the country.

“This sacred task of perfecting our union is not mine. And about you. Your families. Your future. It’s about ‘We the people,’” he said.

“We are a great nation because we are good people. When you elected me to this position, I promised to always be honest with you, to tell you the truth. The truth, the sacred cause of this country, is bigger than any of us,” he said. “We must come together to protect it.”

US President Praised Kamala Harris

In his speech this Wednesday (24), Biden again praised Kamala, saying: “Harris is experienced, resilient and capable.”

“In just a few months, the American people choose the course of America’s future,” Biden said in a rare Oval Office speech this Wednesday (24).

He added: “I made my choice. I made my opinions known. I want to thank our great Vice President Kamala Harris. She is experienced. She’s tough. She is capable. She has been an incredible partner to me and leader of our country. Now the choice is up to you, the American people: you make that choice.”

Harris quickly consolidated the party’s support and became the presumptive Democratic nominee earlier this week.
