Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) weighed in on Republican claims that when Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, it will be an “undemocratic” move, saying “give me a break.”

Asked by Fox News Digital What does she think of the criticism coming from the Republican Party about Harris’ rise to the top of the ticket, Whitmer ignored the concerns.

“It’s hard to take Republican criticism seriously because one day it’s ‘Joe Biden shouldn’t be running’ and the next day it’s ‘well, he should be running,’” she said Thursday. “Give me some time.”

The Michigan governor was responding to criticism from the Republican Party that the late campaign switch between President Biden — who announced on Sunday that he would not seek re-election — and Harris is ignoring adequate democratic processes.

Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), who was recently chosen as former President Trump’s running mate, said Harris’ coronation is a “threat to democracy,” for reports.

Dan Patrick, Lieutenant Governor of Texas, claimed in a statement that Democrats dropped Biden from the ticket because they knew he would lose, ignoring the results of the primary elections earlier this year.

Whitmer, who is rumored to be on Harris’ vice presidential list, said Biden has dedicated decades of his life to service and has been an “incredible” leader and ally.

As co-chair of Biden’s campaign, the Michigan governor said the president’s announcement that he would suspend his campaign was “a surprise.”

The Michigan governor enthusiastically supported Harris, saying she was “excited” to support the vice president in his historic campaign. She added that Harris has more experience than “the entire Republican ticket combined.”

“I think it’s the right decision and that’s why we have a vice president,” Whitmer said. “Kamala Harris has been his number two for four years. No one should be surprised that if he walks away, she will be the one to step into the breach.
