Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) on Monday doubled down on Democrats’ strategy of labeling the GOP presidential ticket as “weird” after former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the argument as “stupid” and “juvenile”.
“Being obsessed with suppressing women is nonsense. Trying to watch what LGBTQ+ people do all the time is abnormal. Punishing people who have no biological ancestry is scary,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social platform X.
“It’s an incel platform, man. It’s SUPER weird. And people need to know,” she continued.
Ocasio-Cortez was responding to a post from Ramaswamy, who criticized Democrats Sunday night for calling former President Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), “strangers.”
“This whole ‘they’re weird’ argument from Democrats is idiotic and juvenile. This is a presidential election, not a prom queen contest. It’s also a bit ironic coming from the party that preaches “diversity and inclusion.” Win in politics if you can, but stop nonsense, please”, Ramaswamy he wrote in X.
The criticism comes as Vance faces scrutiny over comments he has made in the past, including previously saying the country was run by “childless hotties.” He was also criticized for an earlier comment that advocated higher taxes for childless Americans.
Democrats seized on this line of attack. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) said Trump choosing Vance as his running mate was “one of the best things” the former president did for Democrats.
Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii)said on Xon Sunday night, “Assigning extra votes to certain people based on the size of their family is weird. Banning books from the library is strange. The government being in people’s bedrooms is strange. The government being in the exam room is strange. Saying ‘weird’ isn’t teasing at school – it’s an observation.”
Vance this weekend dismissed the attacks in an interview with Fox News when asked if his feelings were hurt.
“No way. It doesn’t hurt my feelings,” he said. “Look, the price of admission – that is, the price of serving the people of this country – is that the Democrats are going to attack us with everything they have. I think it’s an honor.”
