Americans’ opinions on Vice President Kamala Harris are quite divided, with 43% seeing her favorably and 42% unfavorably, while another 14% have no opinion, according to an ABC/Ipsos poll released on Sunday (28 ).

This is an improvement for Kamala from a poll released the previous week, in which 35% viewed her favorably and 46% unfavorably.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has 36% favorability, against 52% unfavorability.

That’s slightly less than a week ago, after the Republican National Convention and the assassination attempt on him, but still higher than the rate for him during most of this campaign cycle.

Senator JD Vance, Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, saw an increase in the population’s negative sentiment towards him, from 31% unfavorability last week to 39% this week.

The change largely reflects a drop in the share of people who had no opinion about him.

“Double haters”

Overall, the poll found that 7% of Americans have negative views of Kamala and Trump — cutting the so-called “double haters” nearly in half, down from the 15% who said last week that they had negative views of Joe Biden and Trump.

Other recent research has found a similar movement.

Democrats excited about Kamala Harris

The poll found that 88% of Democrats say they are at least somewhat excited about Kamala Harris running for president.

Already 82% of Republicans say they are at least somewhat excited about Donald Trump as the GOP nominee.

Overall, about half (48%) of Americans say they are excited about Harris becoming the Democratic nominee, with 39% expressing enthusiasm for Trump as the GOP nominee. The survey did not directly ask about voting preference.

Methodology

The ABC News/Ipsos poll interviewed 1,200 U.S. adults on July 26 and 27, using a nationally representative online panel.

The results have a margin of error of three percentage points.
