Presidents Joe Biden, from the United States, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), from Brazil, agree on the need for “immediate disclosure of complete, transparent and detailed voting data at the polling station level by Venezuelan electoral authorities”, according to informed the White House this Tuesday (30).
The leaders spoke on a call earlier this Tuesday. Also according to the White House, “Biden thanked President Lula for his leadership [em relação à] Venezuela”.
Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed winner of the presidential elections by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
However, the opposition disputes the result, highlighting that it has access to a sufficient number of electoral records that would confirm that Edmundo González is the true winner of the election.
“The two leaders shared the perspective that the outcome of the Venezuelan election represents a critical moment for democracy in the hemisphere and promised to remain in close coordination on the matter,” highlighted the US government note.
Lula and Biden also committed to deepening cooperation between Brazil and the United States to “accelerate the transition to clean energy and continue advancing the Partnership for Workers’ Rights”.
