Nearly 8 in 10 Democrats said they would be satisfied with Vice President Harris as their party’s nominee, according to a new search.

The latest Associated Press/NORC Research Center poll found that 79% of Democrats support Harris at the top of the ticket. This shows a significant increase in satisfaction with the leading Democratic candidate within the party after President Biden withdrew from the race last week and endorsed her.

The AP noted that a separate poll, conducted before Biden stepped aside but after his disastrous debate with former President Trump last month, found that only about 4 in 10 Democrats were satisfied with the incumbent as their candidate.

The most recent poll found that while an overwhelming majority of Democrats said they were satisfied with Harris, a smaller share of respondents appeared confident that Harris could beat Trump in November, compared with Republicans who believe the former president will win.

Approximately 88 percent of Republican respondents said Trump is most likely to win the November election, while 10 percent said Harris will win. In contrast, 71% of Democrats said Harris will win, while another 28% of Democrats said the former president will win.

Overall, 56 percent of adults believe Trump is more likely to win the election, compared with 42 percent who said Harris is, according to the poll.

Adults were divided when asked whether Harris would be a good president, with 42% saying she would be and 42% saying she would not. Another 10% said they didn’t know enough to answer, the survey found.

On the other hand, 38 percent said Trump would be a good president and 56 percent said he wouldn’t, with another 5 percent saying they didn’t know enough.

Overall, 76% of adults approved of Biden withdrawing from the race, including 72% of Republicans and 83% of Democrats. Republicans were less supportive of the president’s support of Harris for the nomination, however, with 15% of Republicans on board compared to 80% of Democrats.

The AP/NORC poll was conducted among 1,141 adults between July 25 and 29 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
