Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (31) that his possible rival in the 2024 elections, Vice President Kamala Harris, “happened to become black” a few years ago, after “from Suddenly she changed her identity.
Trump’s comments, at a gathering of black journalists, came when an interviewer asked why black voters should consider supporting a candidate with his history of racist attacks on political rivals. Trump responded by questioning Kamala’s heritage.
“She was always of indigenous origin and was just promoting indigenous heritage. I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago when she became black, and now she wants to be known as black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or black? Trump said.
“I respect any of them, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian the whole time, and then suddenly she turned a corner and went – she became a person of color. I think someone should look into this too,” he added.
Trump’s comments recall similar attacks on black political rivals in the past — including the years he spent promoting the conspiracy theory that former President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.
Kamala’s mother was Indian and her father was Jamaican; both immigrated to the United States. Kamala was born in Oakland, California, and attended a historically black university, Howard University, in Washington, DC. She is the first woman, first black and first South Asian vice president.
Trump continued to question the vice president’s legacy this Wednesday (31) on his Truth Social platform, hours after his comments at the US National Association of Black Journalists event.
“Crazy Kamala is saying she’s Indian, not black. That’s a big deal. A cold, false stone. She uses everyone, including their racial identity!” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
The post included a 2019 video of Kamala and comedian Mindy Kaling cooking masala dosa, a popular South Indian dish. Kaling and Kamala, who was running for president at the time, were bonding over their South Indian heritage in the clip.

Kamala Harris responded to Donald Trump’s comments on Wednesday (31) about her racial heritage, saying it was “the same old show” and that “the American people deserve better.”
“Today we received another reminder. This afternoon, Donald Trump spoke at the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, and it was the same old spectacle, division and disrespect. Let me just say that the American people deserve better,” the vice president said in remarks at a Sigma Gamma Rho fraternity event in Houston.
