Kamala Harris is expected to announce by Tuesday night (6) her choice for vice-president who will form the Democratic Party’s ticket in the United States presidential elections.
Kamala has already won enough delegates to receive the party’s nomination and replace Joe Biden in the electoral race. The vice president will begin a series of campaign events starting on Tuesday (6), in Pennsylvania, a decisive state for the American election.
The expectation of allies and White House sources is that Kamala will announce her vice president before the rally. The news agency Reuters stated that the name of the chosen candidate could be announced this Monday (5), through social media.
On Sunday (4), the American vice-president interviewed three possible candidates to fill the position on the ticket: the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz; Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Kamala also met with the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, last Friday (2), for more than 90 minutes.
The choice of vice president normally takes place during the Democratic convention or days before the event that will confirm the party’s presidential candidacy. Kamala, however, is trying to hastily organize a campaign strategy, after US President Joe Biden dropped out of the race a little over two weeks ago.
Kamala’s team is analyzing the political, financial and personal history of each of the candidates. The choice of a running mate is focused mainly on areas and states where Kamala needs more strength in the campaign. The name of the vice president could define the course of the elections in the United States.
After the announcement, Kamala and her vice-president will embark on a series of trips to swing states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.
