A SQUAD of work and health coaches will wage war on sick leave culture by helping the sick and disabled stay in work.
They will prepare personalized plans for tens of thousands of people around the world. England so they can continue with their work.
Support can include physiotherapy, counselling, workplace adjustments such as flexible hours, and debt advice.
The £64 million WorkWell program will be trialled in 15 areas, including Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and Cornwall, from October.
It comes after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to get tough on state handouts and Britain’s culture of disease, removing power of GPs to discharge workers as sick. The government wants WorkWell to issue sick leave.
It would mean that those who request it have a conversation about work and health and are referred to employment support services so they can get help to stay in work or get a job.
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said: “WorkWell will link people at risk of unemployment with community services such as physiotherapy, counseling and financial advice to ensure the barriers they face do not hold them back.
“It is part of a broader plan to deliver the long-term change our country needs to deliver a brighter life. future for Britain and improve economic security and opportunities for all.”
WorkWell will be for anyone with a health problem or disability, including mental health problems, who wants to work.
