A MAN who was woken by an alarming “snap” was horrified to discover he had broken his penis in two places.
The unidentified 27-year-old was left writhing in agony after rolling over on his erect member while sleeping.
The man, from Tunisia, waited 36 hours before seeking medical attention, doctors wrote in a medical journal.
Staff at Ibn El Jazzar Hospital in Kairouan said he had an “eggplant deformity” – a typical symptom indicating a fracture in the penis, which Submit reports online.
The man needed an operation to repair both tears.
Although the penis is not a bone, it can fracture when erect if hit with blunt force.
In most cases, a popping or popping sound is heard.
A fractured limb often looks like an “eggplant” and may swell and turn purple.
Penis ruptures often happen in moments of passion, with positions like “doggy” and “cowgirl” considered the most risky.
Doctors who treated the man claimed the horrific injury was “followed by immediate detumescence,” meaning he immediately lost his erection.
The scans showed two separate ruptures 3 cm apart and measuring 10 mm and 7 mm. Both were repaired with stitches.
Fortunately, the man suffered no permanent damage and the swelling subsided after two days.
He could also urinate normally just four days after the procedure.
A penile fracture occurs instantly and requires urgent medical treatment.
For a man to get an erection, two spongy tubes called corpora cavernosa fill with blood and harden.
These are surrounded by a protective layer known as the tunica albuginea.
A fracture happens when this is torn.
Writing in Case reports from the International Journal of Surgerydoctors said men suffering “two separate fractures” is a “rarity in current literature.”
They added: “Single fractures are reported most frequently.”
How a penis fractures
ALTHOUGH a penis cannot actually “fracture
Since 1924, 1,600 cases have been recorded worldwide – around 16 cases per year, the Telegraph reported in 2017.
Researchers noted that in 50% of cases, an alarming popping sound can be heard.
Men who break their penis are often left with erectile dysfunction and a lifetime of painful sex.
HOW DOES A PENIS FRACTURE CAUSE?
The penis has two columns that fill with blood and make it hard.
These are covered by a protective layer of tissue called the tunica albuginea.
If the tunica albuginea is torn, the penis is considered broken — a “serious injury,” says Health Line.
HOW COMMON ARE PENIS FRACTURES?
Penile fractures most commonly occur during vaginal intercourse, when the penis may become bent.
Fractures can also occur from a forceful blow to the erect penis or “traumatic masturbation,” according to Heath Line.
SYMPTOMS OF PENIS FRACTURE
If you are hit hard in the genitals, your penis may be sore or bruised, but the following symptoms are warning signs of a possible fracture.
- audible popping or popping sound
- sudden loss of your erection
- severe pain after injury
- dark bruises above the injured area
- bent penis
- blood leaking from the penis
- difficult urination
PREVENTING A PENIS FRACTURE
The trick to preventing penile injuries is to thrust superficially, according to sex expert Tracey Cox.
Keeping your partner close to you using a grinding motion rather than thrusting will also reduce the risk, she told MailOnline.
